Rochester History Journal
Rochester History is a scholarly journal that publishes deeply researched and engaging articles that explore a wide variety of diverse and inclusive historical topics and perspectives pertaining to Rochester, Monroe County, and Western New York. Former City Historian Blake McKelvey published the first issue in January 1939 with the goal of expanding the knowledge of local history. Starting in 2023, RIT Press partnered with the Central Library of Rochester & Monroe County and the RIT Department of History to publish Rochester History.
Digital Edition
The digital edition of Rochester History launched in February 2024. The new website offers all the content in the print edition, along with bonus content: interactive artifacts with images, galleries, podcasts, and more. Content in the digital edition is available exclusively to subscribers.
Subscriptions
Subscribers receive two print issues per year (spring and fall) as well as unlimited access to the digital edition for the length of their subscription. Subscribe to Rochester History here.
Submissions
The journal invites submissions of manuscripts that further its mission of increasing knowledge of and interest in local history and culture and of placing local issues into a national or global context. Articles should be submitted via email to historyjournal@libraryweb.org.
